Tottenham Hotspur will face a daunting challenge when they take on Liverpool in their upcoming Premier League game.

The statistics do not favor Spurs in this fixture, as they have lost more than twice as many Premier League games (30) against Liverpool as they have won (14).

Additionally, Spurs have won just two of their last 35 league away games at Anfield and have not won there since May 2011. Liverpool have lost only one of their last 20 Premier League games against Spurs and are unbeaten in 10 successive head-to-head meetings.

Spurs have also struggled with conceding goals away from home this season, having already conceded 31 on the road in the competition, which is their most since 2008-09 (35).

However, this Liverpool side is not the toughest Spurs have faced in recent years. Even if they win every remaining game of the season, Liverpool will finish 21 points behind their last season’s total (92). Although Liverpool is tough to beat at Anfield, they have only lost one of their 15 league games there this season, and 16 of their 39 Premier League home goals this season have come in just two games against Bournemouth and Manchester United.

Despite these unfavorable statistics, Spurs head into the game above Liverpool in the table, just like they did in the reverse fixture in November, marking the first time this has happened in a Premier League campaign since 2016-17. However, both teams will be missing key players through injury, and Liverpool could give a first start to Luis Díaz, who has not played since October.

Liverpool secured their first Premier League away victory of the 2022-23 season with a 2-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in November. This win was a significant improvement for Liverpool, who had only managed to secure two points from their opening five away matches in the league, which included losses to Nottingham Forest and Leeds United.

The game saw a first-half brace from Mohamed Salah, with the first goal being assisted by Darwin Nunez and the second coming from an error by Eric Dier. Tottenham, who were without injured Son Heung-min, still had opportunities to score, with Ivan Perisic hitting the woodwork twice either side of halftime.

In the 70th minute, Harry Kane eventually scored for Spurs after an assist from Dejan Kulusevski, setting up a tense finish to the match. Despite Tottenham’s late push for an equalizer, Liverpool managed to hold on for the win.

This victory helped Liverpool double their away point tally for the season and provided a much-needed boost to their away form.

RECENT FORM

Liverpool heads into their upcoming Premier League match against Tottenham looking to secure their fourth consecutive win of the season, after victories against Leeds United, Nottingham Forest, and West Ham.

The Reds have lost only once in their last 38 home matches in league competition and have a strong record at Anfield, winning 28 games, drawing nine, and losing only one since April 2021.

If they avoid a defeat in this game, they will extend their unbeaten run in the Premier League to six games. Liverpool’s home form has been solid this season, with only three teams (Man United, Arsenal, and Man City) winning more points in home matches.

Meanwhile, Tottenham has won only one of their last six Premier League games, with their last three games ending in a draw. Spurs have conceded more goals than they have scored in their last seven games, conceding 17 goals while scoring only 14. Their away form is also poor, with their current five-game winless streak in Premier League away games being their longest since November 2019. Their last game was a 6-1 loss to Newcastle United.

In their last encounter in November 2022, Liverpool beat Tottenham 2-1 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with Mohamed Salah scoring both goals. The game was Tottenham’s sixth Premier League away match of the season, in which they had won only two points.

KEY PLAYERS

Liverpool – Cody Gakpo

Cody Gakpo has had a promising start to his Liverpool career, despite a slow start. His strong showing at the 2022 World Cup and his impressive goal-scoring record at PSV Eindhoven likely contributed to high expectations for the 23-year-old striker.

Since joining Liverpool, Gakpo has scored six goals and provided one assist in the Premier League, which is second only to Mohamed Salah in terms of goal-scoring contributions for the club. His most recent goal came in a match against West Ham United where he equalized for Liverpool after they had fallen behind.

With his form picking up, Liverpool will be hoping that Gakpo can continue to contribute to their goal-scoring efforts in future matches.

Tottenham – Harry Kane & Heung Min Son

It’s clear that Kane and Son have been an incredibly effective partnership for Spurs over the years, and their ability to link up and create chances for each other could be key to their success on Sunday. Despite their recent struggles, Kane and Son remain two of the most dangerous attacking players in the Premier League, and Liverpool will need to be at their best to keep them quiet.

If the Spurs duo can continue their impressive form and find the back of the net, it could be a long afternoon for Liverpool at Anfield.

PREDICTION – Liverpool Win

Liverpool are strong favourites with the Opta supercomputer giving the home side a 55.2% chance of victory compared to Spurs’ 20%.
