Ronaldo's Al Nassr

Some fans hailed Ronaldo’s influence in Europe and stated that it was time for him to secure the bag, as he signed arguably football’s biggest contract reported to be worth 200m Euros per year (inclusive of endorsements). Others were less gracious, mocking the Portuguese star for moving to Saudi after he stated his aim was to finish playing on a high level in a past interview.

Here are some reactions gathered by Sporting Tribune

@frankedoho Ronaldo is finished at 38. Tell me how many footballers are signed by a club for an astonishing €200 per season making him the highest-paid footballer, at the “finished” age of 38? Most people prefer hatred to common sense!

@Ms_Ibia Man is in the twilight of his career and someone is offering him €200m to keep doing the only job he’s ever known? Forget everything I’ve ever said, I’ll take the money too. There’s no ego worth that much please.

@iambolar At 38, it’s all about the money for footballers. Cristiano Ronaldo went for the bag. £177m a year is massively insane.

@deejayfaremi Cristiano Ronaldo spent too much time trying to give a f**k about people who would never like him. These people gave him the villain role just a few years into his United journey all those years ago. Should have been more like Ibrahimovic. The people that will love you will do.

@omojuwa Messi wins the World Cup in Qatar, Cristiano Ronaldo moves to Saudi Arabia. The Middle East took the football centre stage this year.

@_owurakuampofo Imagine Vincent Aboubakar outscores Cristiano Ronaldo in the Saudi Arabian League.

@Abba_Jalo Believe it or not, the football world will be poorer without Cristiano Ronaldo. No man or woman – young or old – dead or alive has his prestigious clout & influence. Not Messi, not Serena, not Obama, not Lebron James. Nobody. He’ll be fine whether in Saudi, Somalia or Sambisa.

@omaakatugba Cristiano Ronaldo, in 2015: “I want to end my career on top and with dignity, not playing in Qatar or Dubai as other footballers have done.” Cristiano Ronaldo talking anyhow is a bad thing.

@Buchi_Laba Cristiano Ronaldo is Finished?? Alright. – Do you know what €200m per Year means! No Tax no Nothing. Just bastard money to play football at 37! The biggest football contract to any sports Man alive but Ronaldo should stay in Europe because Emeka thinks he’s finished! Madness!

@IbkSports European football will surely miss Cristiano Ronaldo. One of the greatest to ever play the round leather game.

@UnlimitedEniola He’s 37 and you want him to sign for Aston Villa to get £200,000- a week? People trolling Cristiano Ronaldo are very funny. They must love their low-paid job, work 300 days out of 365 days, and unable to pay for house rent. For Lebron, He’s 38, getting better pay, doing well.
