Chelsea secured their second win in six matches thanks to Wesley Fofana’s second-half header, which helped them clinch a narrow victory at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues were in strong possession of the game from the start as they hoped to get the better of Leeds and secure their first win in their last six fixtures. The first 45 minutes ended goalless, with Wesley Fofana’s header from a corner going wide and Joao Felix’s curled half-volley hitting the crossbar. Ben Chilwell also came close a few times, but was unable to break the deadlock as the away team stood their ground.

Fofana broke the deadlock early in the second half with a towering header from a brilliantly taken corner by Ben Chilwell, getting the club’s first goal since February 14. Leeds struggled to cause Chelsea any major problems in defense, but Chelsea’s big test comes up on Tuesday with a Champions League clash against Dortmund at Stamford Bridge.

Havertz got an early chance to put Chelsea into the lead after being played in behind by Raheem Sterling, but Ivan Meslier produced an outstanding save. Ben Chilwell was a problem for Luke Ayling throughout the first half.

The home team was finally able to end their goal drought as Wesley Fofana’s towering header from Chilwell’s out-swinging corner gave them the lead.

Leeds responded brilliantly, with Georginio Ritter’s shot deflected, making it easy for Kepa Arrizabalaga to make the save. The visitors had plenty more chances to level the game, but they lacked finishing in the final third.

The Blues survived some nervy moments and secured a much-needed win on home grounds ahead of their Champions League clash against Dortmund on Tuesday. Leeds United were hoping to get the double on Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, having already defeated Chelsea at Elland Road earlier this season.

Graham Potter said, “We’re delighted with the win. We’ve had a tough period. I’m delighted for the players and supporters, who have had to suffer.

“It was pleasing to get the win. We started the game well and created some opportunities. Playing against Leeds is always tough; they’ve got high intensity.

“We got the goal, which was a pleasing moment for us all, and then we’ve got something to lose in the second half, which is where you’d expect us to be given the run we’ve had. It’s really good for the players to keep a clean sheet, win a game and have that feeling. It’s nice.”

Leeds Boss Javi Garcia said, “I’m frustrated and disappointed with the result, but on the other hand, after watching the attitude of my players, I can only say I’m proud of them.

“We need to improve many things, but if we analyze the game, in the first 30 minutes, the opponent was better; they dominated the game and possession, they created two clear chances, but after that moment, we grew up with the ball and created some chances.
