Jigawa targets 250 visually impaired for free eye surgery

Jigawa government says it is targeting 250 visually impaired persons for free eye surgery.

The Director, Tropical Diseases in the state’s Ministry of Health, Dr. Abdurrahman Maidaura, said this during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Thursday, in Dutse.

He said the exercise, which commenced on June 10 at the Gumel General Hospital, was being conducted in collaboration with the Middle East Clinic Limited, Turkey.

The director said a Turkish ophthalmologist, Dr. Yaseer Gaber, supervised the surgical operation, adding that a large number of patients had been treated since the commencement of the exercise.

“The surgery will be rounded off on Friday, June 16, 2023, and we are hoping to achieve the target of 250 patients,” he said.

Some of the beneficiaries, Abubakar Muhammad and  Maryam Abdullahi lauded the gesture and called for measures to mobilise participation in the exercise.
