Kano Pillars coach, Evans Ogenyi, has lamented his team’s ouster from the round of 32 of the Federation Cup.
The Maisu Gida crashed out of the Federation Cup on Wednesday after a 2-0 loss to Rangers International of Enugu at the FIFA Goal Project Pitch Package B of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.
Ogenyi in an interview with Tribune Sports said his team put everything into the game but it was not their day hence their crashing out of the competition.
“I’m sad that we lost. Football being what it is, it is the team that takes its chances that wins matches. I had some chances in the first half which I lost maybe because of anxiety. In modern football, some teams have their bad days. I can say today is like a bad day for my team.

He however said the mandate given to him was to return Kano Pillars to the Nigeria Professional Football Federation (NPFL) and that will be his main focus.

“My focus is actually the league (NNL). The mandate given to me is first of all to see that the darling team of the people of Kano returns to where it exactly belongs and the task is not insurmountable.
“We don’t belong there (NNL) and that is why we are doing everything humanly possible to see that we come tops and go for the Super 8 and see that we actually qualify to where we belong.
“Playing in the lower league has been a bitter experience but we have to inculcate certain mentality into the players because it is a different ball game in terms of the pitches, organisation, and everything. But we have to adapt, you have to change, you have to change the psyche of the players to see that wherever you are you make good use of the opportunity and see that you come out of the situation you have found yourself.
Some pitches will not even allow you to play good football,” the former Lobi Stars of Makurdi said.
