The Kano State Government, on Thursday, appealed to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to establish a medical outreach in the state to help boost healthcare services in the region.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf made the request during a dinner held to mark the successful conclusion of the ‘Cardiac Programme for Adults,’ sponsored by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre.
The initiative, led by the King Salman Volunteering Team, in collaboration with the Islamic World League, alongside other medical volunteers, conducted a series of free cardiac surgeries for 12 patients in Kano State.
The Governor, who was represented by one of his aides, Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo, noted that a fully equipped medical Centre would not only benefit Kano State and Nigeria but will also be of help to neighbouring countries.
He noted that neighbouring countries like the Republic of Niger and Chad, lack the financial muscle to finance such programmes independently, this was even as he extended the gratitude of the Kano State Governor.
According to Gwarzo, “His Excellency, the Governor of Kano State, Kabir Yusuf expresses appreciation to the crown Prince, King Salam bin Abdulazeez for his intervention as custodian of the two Holy Mosques.
“The governor also pledges to collaborate with the Consul-General and his staff to strengthen the existing humanitarian partnership existing between the Kingdom and the Kano State Government.”
The Consul-General of Saudi Arabia in Kano, Mr. Khalil Ahmed Adamawi, reiterated the Kingdom’s commitment to deploying humanitarian principles that alleviate the suffering of those who lack the resources to offset the costs of their medical procedures.
“This commitment has become a norm for Saudi Arabia to demonstrate their dedication to supporting those in need,” Adamawi added.
The Chief Medical Director of Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, Professor Abdurrahman Abba Sheshe, equally expressed his appreciation to Kabir Yusuf for his unwavering commitment to improving the healthcare sector in the state.
He also commended the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, particularly the humanitarian team that travelled to Kano, for saving lives and enhancing the medical skills of the local staff at AKTH.
Guests from various professions from within and outside the country also attended the dinner session.
Among them were top politicians, government officials, heads of security agencies in the state.
