LaLiga files complaint over racist abuse of Chukwueze, Vinicius Jr

The Spanish LaLiga lodged three more complaints for racist abuse during matches, with two of them being directed at Real Madrid’s Brazilian forward, Vinícius Júnior.

The league said one Mallorca fan was identified for twice insulting players, once against Vinícius and another against Villarreal midfielder Samu Chukwueze. Both Vinícius and Chukwueze are Black.

The individual was identified by Mallorca’s security officials, and the police have taken a statement from them.

The third complaint was against an Osasuna fan who insulted Vinícius but has yet to be identified.

This is not the first time the league has filed complaints against racist insults or chants directed at Vinícius. They have filed eight complaints to authorities, with three being dismissed by prosecutors and three being accepted for processing before courts.

However, no one has yet been found responsible for hanging Vinícius’ effigy from a bridge in Madrid last month.

Liverpool manager, Jurgen Klopp, defended Vinícius ahead of their recent match against Real Madrid, stating, “I hope he’s not fussed by any idiots who say something about him.”

Despite the widespread condemnation of these incidents, there has been little punishment for hate attacks against soccer players in Spain. Recently, Valladolid suspended 12 season ticket holders while investigating their alleged use of verbal abuse against Vinícius.

The first trial against a fan who racially insulted a player in Spain is expected to begin this year following remarks made by an Espanyol supporter against Athletic Bilbao forward, Iñaki Williams, a few years ago.

The ongoing issue of racism in soccer is a concerning problem that must be addressed, and measures should be taken to ensure that players are protected from these harmful incidents.
