Ibrahim Gusau, the President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), has clarified that no decision has been made regarding the future of Super Eagles head coach, Jose Peseiro.

Peseiro’s one-year contract, which was signed in June 2022, is set to expire at the end of next month, amidst the qualifiers for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire. There has been a growing demand among Nigerian football fans to not renew his contract.

Recent media reports suggested that the NFF had responded to the fans’ outcry by compiling a list of potential foreign coaches to replace Peseiro before the Super Eagles’ next qualifier against Sierra Leone. However, Ibrahim Gusau, the NFF President, denied having any knowledge of these reports.

“I have not authorized anyone to search for a new coach, and the NFF has not initiated discussions with any individuals regarding replacing our current coach,” Gusau clarified in an interview with Completesports.com.

“To be honest, we haven’t even made a decision at the board level regarding Peseiro’s contract, let alone engaging a new coach.”

Gusau further explained that the NFF will convene a meeting soon to decide whether to extend Peseiro’s contract or terminate it. He assured that any decision made by the NFF will be made public.
