The Acting Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps, Christy Uba, says there is no shortage of drugs across camp clinics nationwide.

Uba, who was on a one-day working visit to the NYSC temporary orientation camp in Gombe State in Amada Akko Local Government Area, said the scheme places a premium on the welfare of corps members.

Speaking during an interview with journalists, Uba, decried media reports claiming there is a drug shortage in some orientation camps.

“The NYSC has been collaborating with NHIS, camp clinics are being manned by consultants and they work together with corps doctors and drugs are made available Nationwide.

“What I saw in Gombe here is a replica of what is in other camps, we are doing fine in that area,” Uba said.

Appealing to purveyors of fake news to confirm their information, before publishing, she said, “They should confirm information before going to press. They should get their facts right before any publication.”

Commenting on feeding, the Director-General described the feeding of corps members as top-notch, saying that the State Coordinators would not allow corps members to be fed without recourse to balance diet.

Uba said, “The feeding of our corps members is top-notch, most of the state coordinators are mothers and they don’t play with corps members feeding.

“We give high priority to the welfare of corps members throughout their service year.”

Speaking earlier, Gombe State Coordinator, Ada Imoni, lamented the challenges of water, and power supply, adding that the temporary condition of the camp has taken a major toll on management.

She appealed to the Acting Director-General to appeal to the state government to hasten the completion of its permanent camp located in Boltongo, Yalmatu Deba Local Government Area.
