Rivers United has secured a spot in the quarter-finals of the 2022/2023 CAF Confederation Cup competition, despite a 2-2 home draw against Diables Noirs of Congo Brazzaville.
The match took place at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, with the Nigeria Professional Football League title-holders drawing their Group B Match Day 5 fixture.
Although Emmanuel Ampiah’s own goal gave Diables Noirs the lead, Rivers United was able to equalize and take the lead with Nwangwa Nyima’s two goals in four minutes. However, Diables Noirs leveled the score with just nine minutes left in the game through Deo Bassinga’s goal.

Rivers United now has ten points and remains at the top of the group on goal difference ahead of second-placed ASEC Mimosas, who also have ten points.
Diables Noirs is third in the group with five points, and their chances of qualifying depended on Ivorian side ASEC losing their match against DC Motema Pembe.
ASEC Mimosas won their match against DC Motema Pembe 2-1, which helped them secure their position and take the battle for group leadership to April 2.

The upcoming match day 6 fixture between ASEC and Rivers United will determine which side finishes first in the group, with the Nigerian side needing only a draw to clinch the top spot.
Aubin Kramo was the star player for ASEC, scoring two goals, including a 90th-minute winner. Although he broke the deadlock after 27 minutes, the home side drew level in the 51st minute through Mydo Yallet. Despite pressure, ASEC fought on and got the winner at the stroke of full-time.
