A startup-Prestige Consulting -has begun operations in Nigeria to help individuals to optimise the use of business and employment-focused social media platform such as LinkedIn to boost their employment chances.

Speaking during the unveiling ceremony which was held in Lagos, the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Prestige Consulting, Gert Nzimiro, said the motivation for launching a recruitment consultancy company in Nigeria was borne out of his 30-year experience in recruitment and human resources consultancy in the United Kingdom.

According to him, many Nigerians have been unable to leverage the immense potential of the LinkedIn platform to sell themselves to potential employers.

Nzimiro further stated that with proper orientation, many prospective employees in Nigeria could secure lucrative offers from employers all over the world, including Europe and America.

He said, “This country has got so much potential, despite the problems. I felt that where I can give support is giving Nigerians a better kind of understanding of how to use LinkedIn. That is where I saw the gap in the market. In the UK, it’s fairly sophisticated, in terms of the way we use it. That’s where I thought I could add the most value.

“It’s not just about having a good profile (on LinkedIn). It’s about what you do after the profile, and that’s where my UK business comes in. I can actually help people get jobs. If you have a really nice car with all the latest gadgets, if you can’t drive the car to where you want to go, what is the point of having the nice car? LinkedIn is a vehicle to something else, that’s the gap that Prestige Consulting is trying to bridge, in being able to give people that exposure to more jobs internationally.”

He also harped on the importance of tailoring messages on the platform to one’s area of expertise. This, according to him, is crucial in elevating an individual’s status as a thought leader and an expert who can be relied upon for real life, practical solutions.

“It’s important, the type of content that you push through LinkedIn. The algorithm responds when you create your own content rather than cutting and pasting. LinkedIn responds positively to when you create your own content, not just reposting somebody else’s. The programme that I’m developing will allow professionals to become thought leaders in what they do. That gives them a better profile that potential employers can look at,” Nzimiro added.

Also speaking, a LinkedIn influencer and digital marketing consultant, Akinniyi Akinbamiro, said Nigerians’ usage of the LinkedIn platform was still at a very minimal level, and that more work needed to be done to re-orientate professionals on how to optimally take advantage of the opportunities replete on the business and employment network.

The firm’s operations will focus on supporting Nigerian professionals through one-on-one career/business consultation sessions, intensive LinkedIn foundation training, and full-day LinkedIn masterclasses.

Its services are designed to help individuals achieve their professional goals and career trajectory using LinkedIn, the most recognised business/social media platform in the world today.

The launching was witnessed by leading players in the business world including the Chairman of PUNCH Nigeria Limited, Mrs Angela Emuwa.
