EPL: Newcastle United thrash 10-man Chelsea 4-1 at St James’ Park – Sporting Tribune

Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak netted on his return from injury, while two quick-fire second-half goals and a late Anthony Gordon strike gave the Magpies a 4-1 Premier League win over 10-man Chelsea at St James’ Park on Saturday.

Isak, who has missed several games over the last month due to a groin problem, was teed up by a brilliant short pass through the heart of the Chelsea defence by 17-year-old midfielder Lewis Miley, and the striker took a touch before firing home in the 13th minute.

Chelsea drew level 10 minutes later as Raheem Sterling was brought down on the edge of the box, and the winger stepped up to drill the resulting free-kick past the flat-footed Nick Pope.

Newcastle almost went in ahead at the break as a free kick from fullback Kieran Trippier hit the crossbar, but there was little indication of the collapse to come from Chelsea in the second half.

The home side took the lead again on the hour mark as Newcastle patiently worked a free kick from right to left, allowing Gordon to find the head of Jamaal Lascelles with an inswinging cross that the Magpies captain steered into the net.

Just over a minute later Robert Sanchez was beaten again as Joelinton robbed fellow Brazilian Thiago Silva on the edge of the box and advanced before scoring to leave Chelsea on the ropes.

Any chance Chelsea had of staging a comeback vanished when Reece James collected his second yellow card for an innocuous challenge in the 73rd minute, and it prompted Eddie Howe to shuffle his deck.

ringing a number of young players off the bench, Howe moved Gordon up front and he rounded off the scoring in the 83rd minute with an excellent individual effort as Newcastle rose to sixth in the table on 23 points, while Chelsea are 10th on 16 points.

Napoli’s talented center-back and South Korea international, Kim Min-jae seems poised to reject interest from both PSG and Premier League clubs in favor of a move to Bayern Munich, as reported by RMC Sport.

Kim joined Napoli at the start of the 2022/2023 season in a €18m from Turkish Super Lig side Fenerbache.

The reigning Serie A champion is expected to sign a five-year contract, binding him to the Bundesliga giants until 2028. Advanced negotiations between Kim Min-jae and Bayern Munich are currently underway, and it is anticipated that a transfer fee slightly higher than his €47m release clause will be agreed upon between Bayern and Napoli.

  • Man United eye new goalkeeper despite David de Gea contract talks

Man United eye new goalkeeper despite David de Gea contract talks

Manchester United have confirmed ongoing contract negotiations with David de Gea following the announcement of seven player releases.

The experienced goalkeeper recently completed his 12th season at Old Trafford, securing the Premier League’s Golden Glove award for the most clean sheets.

While De Gea’s performances have had some shortcomings, particularly in his ball distribution and occasional blunders while attempting to save shots, United and manager Erik ten Hag are interested in extending his contract. However, a significant reduction in his weekly wages of £350,000 has been agreed in principle.

Although United has not yet confirmed De Gea’s retention while announcing player departures and contract extensions for Tom Heaton and Nathan Bishop, talks are underway for a new deal.

The departing players include Phil Jones, Axel Tuanzebe, Ethan Galbraith, Di’Shon Bernard, Eric Hanbury, Charlie Wellens, and Manni Norkett.

United’s pursuit of De Gea’s contract extension does not hinder their plans to acquire a new goalkeeper. Porto’s Diogo Costa and Brentford’s David Raya are being closely monitored, and the club is also keeping an eye on the situation of Inter’s Andre Onana, who has been a long-term target for Chelsea and could be valued at approximately £40m.

Another priority for Ten Hag is signing a new striker who can serve as the club’s primary number nine. Anthony Martial’s injury record has made him unreliable, and Wout Weghorst’s loan spell was always intended as a short-term solution.

Notable names on United’s shortlist include Harry Kane, Victor Osimhen, and Dusan Vlahovic, along with ongoing interest in Benjamin Sesko and Rasmus Hojlund, among others.
