‘There’s quality’ Sean Dyche hails Everton following 5-1 Brighton thrashin

Everton manager Sean Dyche expressed unwavering belief in his team as they secured a resounding 5-1 victory over Brighton in the Premier League, propelling them two points clear of the relegation zone.

The win was Everton’s first away league victory in 14 attempts and came at a crucial juncture with only three matches remaining to secure their top-flight safety.

Abdoulaye Doucoure set the tone with a goal just 34 seconds into the game, laying the foundation for what turned out to be a commanding performance. Doucoure and Dwight McNeil both scored braces on either side of halftime, sealing a comprehensive victory.

Dyche emphasized that his team never lost faith in their abilities, stating, “People will be out there thinking right, OK, there’s life in that team but we’ve never lost sight of that.

“It just reminds the players that their work ethic, their commitment to the cause, their commitment to the group is really important because I know there’s quality.

“I’ve always believed there’s quality. I’ve said it many times, but talking about it doesn’t win you a game. It’s the collective mentality to go and deliver everything you’ve got.

“We were very frustrated not to come away with all three points (against Leicester) but we got a reward for carrying on that mentality in their performances tonight.”

The manager acknowledged the quality within the squad, a sentiment he had expressed previously. However, he stressed that simply talking about it would not win games. It is the players’ collective mindset and determination to give their all that leads to success on the field.

Reflecting on the match, Dyche highlighted the frustration of not securing all three points in their previous game against Leicester. However, he commended his team for carrying forward the same mentality, which ultimately earned them a deserving reward against Brighton.

Doucoure added his second goal with a volley after 29 minutes, while McNeil’s cross deflected off Jordan Steele, the Brighton goalkeeper, before finding the back of the net. Although Alexis Mac Allister pulled one back for Brighton, McNeil quickly restored Everton’s advantage. The victory was sealed in the dying moments of second-half stoppage time when McNeil scored his second and Everton’s fifth goal.

Dyche acknowledged the positive atmosphere within the team following the win, but he emphasized that it is just another step in their journey.

He reminded everyone that there are still three important matches to navigate, including encounters against Manchester City, Wolves, and Bournemouth before their safety in the Premier League is assured.
