Match report as Marcus Rashford gives United their first Manchester Derby victory against City since March 2021.
Bruno Fernandes scored the leveler in the 82nd minute while Rashford got the winner just 4 minutes later.
In front of a ferocious Old Trafford atmosphere, Manchester United, despite conceding the first goal in the match, exhibited a class performance against Manchester City.
After a goalless first-half, City drew first blood quickly after the restart, courtesy of Jack Grealish who came off the bench at the start of the second half.
The goal was assisted by Kevin de Bruyne, whose swerving cross was headed in by Grealish.
Although City tried to control possession, that didn’t suffice as Bruno Fernandes scored United’s first goal of the match.
The lead was doubled just 4 minutes later after Alejandro Garnacho blitzed down the left and assisted Marcus Rashford for a tap in through Ederson Moraes legs to confirm the victory.
Manchester City who offered little going forward for large parts tried to level the game but couldn’t as they only mustered one shot on target out of 5 attemps the whole match. The one being Grealish’s goal.
Manchester United is in electrifying form at the moment, Grealish’s goal was the first that United have conceded since September 2022. Marcus Rashford also becomes the first player to score for United in 7 consecutive matches since Cristiano Ronaldo in 2008.
Manchester United haven’t finished above City since Sir Alex Ferguson retired, they’re now just one point behind them, also just 6 points behind leaders Arsenal who seem to be on a mission this season.

THE VAR CONTROVERSY
Manchester City were left enraged after after Manchester United were awarded a very controversial equaliser.
With United in possession of the ball, Casemiro delivered a pass into the Marcus Rashford’s path who was clearly offside but didn’t get a touch of the ball on his run towards the goal for Bruno Fernandes to find the back of the net.
City fans and players were left enraged as the goal was given. They argued that Marcus Rashford was in an offside position, and that Ederson had been dragged out from his goal line due to his positioning claiming he made an attempt on the ball before Fernandes slotted it into the back of the net.
