Manchester United eye Bayern goalkeeper Yann Sommer

According to German journalist, Christian Falk, Manchester United are interested in signing Bayern Munich goalkeeper Yann Sommer.

Sommer joined Bayern last winter as a quick replacement for the injured Manuel Neuer. Since his move from Borussia Mönchengladbach, the 34-year-old goalkeeper has been a consistent presence in the starting lineup for the reigning champions.

However, there is an understanding between Sommer and the club that if Neuer returns in the summer, he will reclaim the number one spot, allowing the Swiss international to depart during the same transfer window.

Considering the upcoming European Championships, it would be logical for Sommer to seek regular playing time elsewhere immediately. Remaining on the bench at Bayern is not a viable option, especially when his Swiss compatriots Gregor Kobel (Borussia Dortmund) and Jonas Omlin (Gladbach) will continue to feature prominently at their respective clubs.

Manchester United’s interest in Sommer has existed since his time at Gladbach.

The Red Devils have been closely monitoring him as a potential replacement for or competitor to David de Gea.
