In a thrilling encounter, the Flying Eagles of Nigeria secured their Round of 16 spot in the ongoing 2023 FIFA U20 World Cup by defeating Italy with a convincing 2-0 win.

The Italian team started the game strongly, hitting the woodwork in the fifth minute through Cesare Casadei. However, the Flying Eagles gradually settled into the match and began troubling the Italian defense with several long-range efforts.

Ten minutes before the break, Solomon Agbalaka handled the ball inside the box, creating a tense moment for Nigeria. Fortunately, luck was on their side as the referee, after consulting with the Video Assistant Referee (VAR), ruled that an Italian player had also made contact with the ball during the build-up.

At the start of the second half, Flying Eagles head coach Ladan Bosso made two strategic substitutions, bringing on Tochukwu Nnadi and Umeh Emmanuel in place of Samson Lawal and Ibrahim Mohammed, respectively.

The Nigerian team took control of the game in the second half; however, their final ball often let them down, preventing them from extending their lead. Nonetheless, in the 61st minute, Salim Fago scored a brilliant header after receiving an excellent cross from Nnadi, breaking the deadlock and giving Nigeria the lead.

Deep into stoppage time, winger Jude Sunday sealed the victory by netting the second goal for the Flying Eagles.

In their final group game, the Nigerian team will face Brazil on Saturday in La Plata, setting the stage for an exciting and crucial match.
