The Ondo State Governor, Mr Rotimi Akeredolu on Thursday commenced the distribution of 54,781 free learning materials to primary school pupils in the state.
The beneficiaries were in the schools across the 18 local government areas of the state.
At the distribution of the materials, held at St James’ Mega Primary School, Irowo, Akure, the governor said the instructional materials were procured by the Universal Basic Education Commission in conjunction with the State Universal Basic Education Board as part of his administration’s commitment to encouraging the pupils to achieve educational excellence.
The governor, represented by the state Commissioner for Education, Mr Femi Agagu, said the materials distributed are, 13,957 basic science teaching textbooks, 13,344 mathematics textbooks, 13,790 English studies textbooks, 153 android tablets, 1,600 history textbooks, 2,653 jolly phonics textbooks for teachers, 5,650 assorted library books funded jointly by UBEC and SUBEB as well as 3,500 computer studies textbooks and ECCDE charts and Nigeria map.
In his welcome address, the Chairman of the Ondo State SUBEB, Mr Victor Olabimtan, stated that the instructional materials would help the learners in competing effectively with their peers across other states of the federation.
