Bayern Munich has suffered another defeat under new coach Thomas Tuchel, losing 3-1 to Mainz at Mewa Arena on Saturday.”
Bayern was looking to recover from their Champions League loss to Manchester City midweek but were surprisingly outplayed by Tuchel’s former team.
Sadio Mane gave Bayern the lead in the first half, but Mainz responded with three second-half goals to claim all three points.
The visitors thought they had taken the lead in the 15th minute when Mane finished coolly over Mainz goalkeeper Robin Zentner, but the goal was disallowed for offside. They eventually took the lead in the 29th minute when Joao Cancelo’s cross from the left wing found Mane, who headed in at the back post.

However, Mainz fought back in the second half, and Ludovic Ajorque equalized after Yann Sommer parried Lee Jae-sung’s shot. Mainz then took the lead in the 73rd minute when Leandro Barreiro finished off Karim Onisiwo’s pass. Aaron Martin then sealed the win for Mainz with a left-footed strike from outside the box in the 79th minute.
The defeat leaves Bayern without a win in their last four matches, with their title defense hanging in the balance. They now sit second in the Bundesliga table, a point behind Borussia Dortmund, who play later on Saturday.
Tuchel will be disappointed with the result and will have to work hard to turn Bayern’s fortunes around. Mainz, on the other hand, will be delighted with their performance and the three points, which could be crucial in their battle against relegation.
