Chelsea close to confirming Pochettino as new manager

Mauricio Pochettino is closing in on becoming the new permanent manager of Chelsea Football Club.

Negotiations between the parties are in the final stages, with only minor details left to be ironed out.

Chelsea’s decision-makers met over the weekend to discuss progress in pursuing Pochettino, whose lawyers have now received a contract. Chelsea hopes to confirm Pochettino as their new manager in the coming days.

Pochettino’s backroom staff has also been discussed at length, with just a handful of minor details left to be addressed before a complete agreement can be reached.

Pochettino is expected to have a significant say in which players will be allowed to leave Stamford Bridge this summer. Centre-back Levi Colwill, who was earmarked as a future first-team player before the search for a new manager began, will be given a place in the squad.

Malo Gusto’s loan with Lyon will end, and the signing of RB Leipzig forward Christopher Nkunku will be confirmed. Neither Chelsea nor Leipzig has confirmed the agreement for Nkunku, which was struck months ago, although the German side’s manager recently admitted that the forward is ‘in his last few weeks’ with the club.

If Pochettino’s appointment is confirmed, it will provide a much-needed injection of positivity for the Chelsea fanbase, which has grown increasingly frustrated in recent weeks.

Sources suggest that Pochettino could even be in attendance for Chelsea’s upcoming match against Arsenal on Tuesday.
