The Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria has elected Abubakar Zubair as its new president.
Zubair who was elected at the council’s recent Extra Ordinary Council Meeting took over from Rabiu Ali, who served a single term as President of COREN from April 2019 to April 2023.
According to a statement signed by the council Head, Public Relations, Haruna Ojonugwa, on Thursday, the new COREN president is a graduate of the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, where he obtained a degree in Agric & Bio-Resources Engineering in 1987, an MSc in Agric & Bio-Resources Engineering in 1992 and a PhD in Agric & Bio-Resources Engineering in 2002.
He also attended several academic and professional courses locally and internationally to enhance his competence and capabilities in teaching, research, and professional services and was a recipient of various professional awards and recognitions.
He is a COREN registered engineer and a Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, a Fellow of the Nigerian Institution of Agricultural Engineers, a Member of the Agricultural Extension Society of Nigeria, a Member of the Nigerian National Committee on Irrigation, Drainage and Just elected fellow of Nigerian Academy of Engineering among others.
Zubair was also the Head of Department of Agric Engineering Department at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria; North-West Zonal Director, Deputy Director, and Executive Director all in National Agricultural Extension and Research Liaison Services spanning 1996-2012 and further elevated to the position of Provost of Agric Complex and Dean, Faculty of Engineering in ABU between 2012 and 2014.
The statement added that the new president had been involved in the conduct of applied research, promotion of improved technologies and practices, provision of support services, capacity building of diverse clients including field extension staff and managers, farmers, among others.
He has held various leadership positions during his 34-year academic career.
