An aspirant in the race for the seat of the Senate President in the 10th National Assembly, Senator Jibrin Barau, has called on the Muslim faithful to emulate the enviable attributes of the Holy Prophet Mohammed (SAW).
Barau, who gave the charge in his Eid el-Fitr message to Nigerians on Thursday, said the virtues of the prophet are aptly symbolised by his humility and love towards all men.
Eid el-Fitr is a religious holiday celebrated globally by Islamic believers because it marks the end of the month-long dawn-to-sunset fasting of Ramadan.
But Barau, the chairman of Senate Committee on Appropriation, believes the significance of the festival is deeper than the literal meaning.
“Eid al-Fitr Festival should serve as a guiding light to all Muslims in the country to always do what is just, fair, equitable and good towards all men, no matter the differences.
“I hereby felicitate all Muslims on the occasion of this year’s Eid al-Fitr. It is an occasion for us to thank Allah for his mercies to us as a people and on our country, Nigeria. We should therefore live by the teachings of the Almighty God in all our endeavours thereby building an enviable society,” he urged.
While praying for peace in the country, the All Progressives Congress senator representing Kano North Senatorial District also called on the Almighty Allah to direct both the current and incoming leadership of the nation aright.
Although the Kano senator, former Minister for Niger Delta Affairs, Godswill Akpabio and Senate Chief Whip, Orji Uzor Kalu, who recently lost his wife, has been tipped as favourites for the leadership of the Red chamber, there were other strong contenders also vying for the seat.
They include former Governor of Zamfara State, Abdulaziz Yari; the senator-elect representing Imo West, Osita Izunaso; Sani Musa (Niger East), Peter Ndubueze (Imo North) and Lawan, who represents Yobe North senatorial district.
