Kaduna health authority urges farmers to embrace health insurance scheme

The Kaduna State Contributory Health Management Authority has urged farmers in the state to embrace the ongoing health insurance scheme for their overall well-being.

The call was made by the Head of Operations, Dr. Juliana Dauda during a sensitisation and medical outreach programme held at the Tomato Jos Farm Settlement, Kaigimi, in the Igabi Local Government Area on Friday.

She said it was imperative for farmers to key into the contributory health insurance programme to reduce the cost of treatment.

Dr. Dauda said during the exercise, no fewer than 2,000 residents would be attended to by a team of medical personnel from the authority.

“Farmers are hardworking people, so good health should be of interest to them. This scheme is an opportunity for them” she added.

Also speaking, the Head of Marketing and Business Development, Ibrahim Mohammed-Alimi, described the cost of enrolling in the insurance scheme as ‘pocket friendly’.

He said that with N10,800, an individual could access quality healthcare services for a whole year.

”Services can be accessed at all the primary health care facilities and government-accredited private hospitals in the state.

”Those who will enrol are to choose their preferred service providers. It is an opportunity for our farmers to access quality healthcare services,” he said.

Speaking on behalf of the people, a Smallholder Programme Administrator, Hannatu Irimiya, commended KADCHMA for the exercise and described the health insurance scheme as a good omen.

She said that the programme would enrol 100 farmers in the contributory health insurance scheme as its pilot project.

Irimiya said that the free medical outreach had filled the vacuum created by the long absence of quality healthcare system in the area.

”This outreach has saved lives. It has also saved us money. We are very grateful for this kind gesture. It is well-intended and timely. We cannot thank you enough. You can see that our farmers came out in their numbers, it means that they are happy,” she said.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that KADCHMA offered free medical services to the people during the programme.

A team of medical personnel such as laboratory technicians, pharmacists and medical doctors, among others, were on the ground to attend to the people.
