The president of Ronaldo’s boyhood side, Frederico Varandas, has previously hailed the work done by the Mahd Academy.

“Sporting Lisbon has seen the emergence of icons such as Luis Figo and Cristiano Ronaldo amongst others, but in reality, we are not simply a football club, rather we have more than 50 sports operating within our club that are backed with scouts and coaches roaming the nation in search of talented young players,” he said.

“Across our sporting history we have had the knowledge to distinguish large projects capable of propelling young talent such as the project we are witnessing today with Mahd Sports Academy, and we hope to meet in the future.
