NPFL: IMC presents N200m grant to clubs as league kicks off Sunday 

The Interim Management Committee (IMC) of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) has presented a N200m grant to all the 20 clubs that will be participating in the 2022/2023 football season scheduled to take off on Sunday, January 8, 2023.

Presenting the cheque to the chairman of the club managers, Barrister Isaac Danladi, in Abuja on Thursday, the chairman of the IMC, Honourable Gbenga Elegbeleye, said the N200 million will be equally shared by among all the clubs to ease their preparations for the league.

Elegbeleye added that the clubs are open to more support as the league progresses. He thanked the Minister of Sports and Youth Development, Sunday Dare, the NFF president, Ibrahim Musa Gusau, the club chairmen, sponsors, and partners for their support.

The NFF president while commending the IMC for a job well done said the time has come for Nigerian football to be run professionally and transparently saying it is by doing so that the league will get the support of all and do things the right way.

He said the next football season will start in August to align with the leagues around the world. Gusau said players must be given the chance to rest and take their chances outside the country.

“I promised during my electioneering campaign that I will do everything possible to change the face of football in Nigeria. It is time to change the narrative of football in our country and it is time for our football to run well. We want to run our league the way it’s being run around the world. We must start next season in August and nothing can stop it. It’s time to get things right.”

The Group Managing Director GMD of GTI Group, the sponsors of the league, Abubakar Lawal, said the NPFL has now been transformed into a unique national sports asset that will create opportunities for key stakeholders and the general public to earn good returns on their respective sponsorship and investments in the league through The Nigeria Football Fund (TNFF).
