UNICEF donates 1,212 delivery kits to pregnant women in Anambra

The United Nations Children’s Fund has donated 1,212 delivery kits to the Anambra State Government for onward distribution to women in rural areas.

Mr. Daniel Ezeigwe, the media aide to the governor’s wife, Mrs. Nonye Soludo, made this known in a statement issued in Awka on Sunday.

The statement indicated that orders have been given to have the delivery kits distributed to women living in hard-to-access areas of the state.

Mrs. Soludo commended UNICEF for the donation, noting that it is crucial in tackling neonatal and maternal deaths, especially in rural areas of the state.

She urged those involved in the distribution of the delivery kits to ensure that the target areas are covered, with special consideration for women within specified economic brackets.

The governor’s wife further commended the World Health Organisation and other development partners working with the state government in support of the development visions of the administration.

She disclosed that similar donations were made to pregnant women taking shelter in designated holding centres during the 2022 flooding.

“We understand the economic and social difficulties faced by most rural women in the course of childbirth and it is a priority to my husband’s administration,” she added.

Recall that in November 2022, the United Nations Population Fund also made a donation of 5,000 delivery kits to the state, to be distributed to pregnant women displaced by flood.
