After a tumultuous week which saw him suspended by Paris Saint-Germain over an unauthorised trip to Saudi Arabia on Monday, Lionel Messi has taken to Instagram to offer an apology to his club and teammates.
Messi explains that he believed the squad would have the day off after the match, a 3-1 defeat to Lorient, as had been the case in the weeks beforehand. He adds that his trip to Saudi Arabia – as part of his commitments as the country’s tourism ambassador – had already been cancelled before and could not be postponed further.

“I apologize to my teammates and I’m waiting for what the club wants to do with me”.
The Argentine will be unable to play for PSG, nor use the club’s training facilities, for the next two weeks, and see his pay docked for that period as well.
Reports indicate that the episode could potentially be the epilogue to the former Barcelona man’s two-year stay in the French capital, with doubts over whether he will return to the squad for the final three games of the season after his suspension is lifted.
