Julian Nagelsmann has been sacked as manager of Bayern Munich, according to reports by German publication Bild.

The decision to remove Nagelsmann from his post was apparently being discussed internally on Thursday evening after the team lost 2-1 to Bayer Leverkusen just before the March international break.

This defeat saw Bayern drop to second position in the Bundesliga, one point behind Borussia Dortmund. Despite leading for the majority of the season, Bayern bosses believe it is time to relieve the 35-year-old of his duties.

Nagelsmann took over as Bayern manager in 2021 and guided the team to their 10th consecutive Bundesliga title. The club is currently still in the Champions League and will face Manchester City in the quarter-finals.

Reports suggest that Thomas Tuchel, the former Chelsea coach, is the favourite to succeed Nagelsmann.

If Tuchel does indeed sign during the international break, his first game as Bayern’s new manager will be against Borussia Dortmund on April 1st.
