The Chairman of Forum of Health Commissioners in Nigeria, Dr Oyebanji Filani, has expressed the resolve of stakeholders in the healthcare delivery system in Nigeria to review health sector issues and chart a way forward next week.

Filani, who is the Commissioner for Health in Ekiti State, said the stakeholders included the Minister of Health, Professor Ali Pate; Minister of State for Health, Dr Tunji Alausa; 36 state Health commissioners, researchers, drug manufacturing companies, international development agencies and other health and medical experts.

The commissioner, who spoke with journalists in Ado Ekiti on Friday, said that participants at the 64th National Council on Health, with the theme, ‘Building a resilient and inclusive healthcare system for healthy Nigeria’, billed for between Monday and Friday in Ekiti State, would discuss the nation’s health system and proffer ways of achieving universal health coverage.

He said that issues relating to the call for an increase in the budgetary allocation to the health sector and inclusive policy formulation towards enhancing quality and affordable healthcare for the citizens would be addressed at the conference.

Filani expressed optimism that the summit would greatly help in improving the level of the healthcare system in the country, saying, “The Council meets annually to discuss and address critical health issues, review progress and decisions that influence the direction of healthcare in the country”.
