The Independent National Electoral Commission has commenced the collation of results for the Imo State governorship election.

The procedure, led by the returning officer, Prof Abayomi Fasina, Vice Chancellor of the Federal University in Oye, Ekiti, began at 2:40am on Sunday at the collation centre in Owerri, the state capital.

The results are being compiled just hours after the governorship election, one of three off-season elections held in the country on Saturday.

Meanwhile, videos making the rounds on social media show party agents protesting the quick collation of results at the venue.

One of the agents in the video can be heard saying “Where are we rushing to?”

Governor Hope Uzodimma of the All Progressives Congress is running for re-election. Athan Achonu of the Labour Party and Samuel Anyanwu of the Peoples Democratic Party are the two other leading candidates.
