Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen created a new record for Napoli on Sunday, as he found the back of the net once in the Partenopei’s 3-0 win over Cremonese in Serie A.

Napoli have opened up a 16-point gap at the top of the table once again with their win at home against Cremonese.

Celebrating his 22nd birthday, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia found the back of the net in the first half, seizing on a poor clearance to dance his way back into the box for a low finish.

Second-half goals from Osimhen and Eljif Elmas increased Napoli’s lead to further condemn Cremonese who remain at the bottom of the Serie A.

Osimhen scored in the 65th minute when he flicked Kim Min-jae’s header over the line following a corner kick that was parried by the goalkeeper.

That gave Osimhen a 17th league goal of the season in just his 18th appearance, with his haul putting him five clear of fellow Nigerian Ademola Lookman and Lautaro Martinez in joint-second.

He also shattered Gonzalo Higuain’s record of scoring in five consecutive league games for Napoli, taking his own tally to six for the season. Higuain reached his feat in the 2015/16 campaign.

The Nigerian now has 17 goals in Serie A and 18 in all competitions, with the Champions League returning. He has scored eight goals in the last six games, also getting one assist.
