Environmental experts and policymakers will on Wednesday, 21, discuss the growing challenge of plastic pollution globally and particularly in Nigeria at a virtual event organised by the Reportr Door Media Foundation.

The webinar, according to Reportr Door Media Foundation, is organsed in commemoration of World Environment Day 2023.

The event is aimed at joining United Nations Environment Programmes in advocating sustainable solutions to plastic pollution.

The event, which is another edition of the Reportr Door Webinar Series is themed, ‘Plastic Pollution in Nigeria: Innovations and Solutions for a Sustainable Future’.

The two-hour webinar is scheduled to begin at 11 am and will feature a panel of experts from various backgrounds, including government, environmental activists, environmentalists, academics, and media, among others.

According to a statement released by PMF, the virtual event, would be moderated by Multimedia Journalist and Contributing Member, Editorial Board, Reportr Door Newspaper, Deborah Tolu-Kolawole.

The event is open to “stakeholders, policymakers, government agencies, non-governmental Organisations, health workers, civil society organisations, academics, researchers, innovators, entrepreneurs, and the general public,” the statement said.

It added that the event aims to provide a platform for engagement, knowledge sharing, and collaboration toward a more sustainable future for Nigeria.

“It is an opportunity to raise awareness about the negative impact of plastic pollution on the environment and human health in Nigeria, promote knowledge sharing and collaboration and galvanise action towards a more sustainable

future,” it added.

Panellists expected at the event include Dr. Dolapo Fasawe, General Manager, Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency; Prof. Antoinette Ofili, Professor of Public Health and Community Medicine/Consultant Community Physician, University of Benin/ University of Benin Teaching Hospital; Oluyomi Banjo, Environment Expert and Project Coordinator, United Nations Industrial Development Organisation.

Others are Dr Adenike Akinsemolu, Lecturer and Founder, Green Campus Initiative; Michael Ohioze Simire, CEO at MS & Associates/EnviroNews Nigeria; Ibrahim Adejuwon Odunboni, Former Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Lagos Waste Management Authority
