  • Saudi Pro League launches audacious move to land Paul Pogba

Saudi Pro League launches audacious move to land Paul Pogba

According to reports, Saudi Arabia’s Pro League is targeting Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba as their latest high-profile signing.

Karim Benzema recently left Real Madrid to join Al Ittihad on a three-year deal, and N’Golo Kante is rumored to be close to following suit. Cristiano Ronaldo made a notable move to the Middle East at the start of 2023, and it is expected that more prominent players will join him.

The Saudi Arabian officials are eager to attract elite talent from Europe, with Pogba being firmly on their radar. The 30-year-old has faced a tumultuous campaign, marred by injuries and controversies, since his return to Juventus from Manchester United last summer. He started just one Serie A game last season and faced disciplinary issues that led to his omission from Juventus’ squad for a Europa League knockout tie against Freiburg.

Despite his struggles, Pogba has expressed his desire to stay in Turin and prove his worth. However, Juventus themselves have experienced a turbulent season, including off-field controversies and a ten-point deduction for financial irregularities.

With the club potentially looking at a rebuild this summer and participating in the Europa Conference League qualifiers, Pogba’s departure, considering his high wages, could be an enticing option for Juventus.

The opportunity to sell Pogba to Saudi Arabia may prove tempting for Juventus, and such a move would be another significant coup for the Pro League.

So far, the big-name signings secured by Saudi Arabian clubs have been on free transfers. However, with financial support from the nation’s Public Investment Fund (PIF), which also owns Newcastle United, the Pro League’s top four clubs (Al Ittihad, Al Ahli, Al Nassr, and Al Hilal) will have no issue paying substantial fees for future targets.

Karim Benzema’s move to Saudi Arabia is reported to be worth over £250,000 per day without tax, and Kante is expected to receive a similar salary when he finalizes his transfer. If Pogba ends up making the move to the Middle East, he can expect to land a lucrative payday as well.

SERIE A: Pogba suffers injury setback in first start in over a year

Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba suffered an injury setback on his much-anticipated return to competitive action in the Serie A against Cremonese on Sunday.

Pogba was making his first start for Juventus after his 2022 summer transfer

The 30-year-old required treatment on his left thigh after pulling up while crossing the ball. Pogba, who had been out for over a year, left the field with a visibly disappointed expression on his face. Despite his early exit, Juventus went on to secure a 2-0 victory.

Juve manager Massimiliano Allegri expressed his disappointment at the situation, acknowledging Pogba’s positive contribution before the injury occurred.

He highlighted the sacrifices the player had made to make his comeback and acknowledged the risks involved after such a long period without competitive play.

Pogba’s previous start was for his former club Manchester United against Liverpool in April 2022, where he suffered a calf injury that ruled him out for the remainder of the season.

Following his return to Juventus, he faced further setbacks due to a knee injury and subsequent surgery. Although he rejoined the squad in January, another muscular problem delayed his return to action.

After making several substitute appearances, Pogba finally earned a spot in the starting lineup against Cremonese. However, his unfortunate injury halted his comeback once again. Juventus managed to secure the win with goals from Nicolo Fagioli and Bremer.

Cremonese, currently in 19th place and facing relegation, sit six points adrift from safety with three games remaining.

Juventus will be able to call on Paul Pogba for the first time this season against Monza, with Dusan Vlahovic also fit again, though Weston McKennie is set to leave the club.

Pogba returned to Juve from Manchester United at the start of the season, having previously signed for the Bianconeri after leaving Old Trafford for the first time in 2012.

But France’s World Cup-winning midfielder sustained a knee injury in pre-season and later required surgery, missing the entire season so far and Qatar 2022.

Finally, on Saturday, coach Massimiliano Allegri was able to confirm Pogba’s imminent return to action, while Vlahovic is also set to feature for the first time since the World Cup following a groin complaint.

He added of the pair’s status ahead of Juve’s home match against Monza: “They’re fine. They did good in training, a good test the other day.

“Vlahovic’s condition is better than Pogba’s, also just as a physical structure, but Paul in recent days has come ahead.

“If a player is called up, he can play. Of course, they don’t have 60 minutes in their legs, they’ll have 30 at most.”

Mattia De Sciglio will also be available to Allegri, but Leonardo Bonucci requires more time to recover his injured adductor.

Juan Cuadrado and Federico Chiesa, who is fatigued, will both miss the Monza game before returning to the fold against Lazio in midweek.

McKennie is another who will be absent this weekend, and Allegri does not expect the United States midfielder to return to Juve as a deal has been struck with a suitor, said to be Leeds United.

France and Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba is facing a race against time to be fit for the World Cup after picking up a fresh injury.

Pogba has suffered a setback in his recovery from knee surgery, GOAL understands.

The midfielder has sustained a muscular injury to his right thigh and will be out for at least 15 days.

Pogba’s injury means he will not play for Juventus again in 2022 and is facing a battle to be fit in time to make the France squad for the World Cup.

The 2022 World Cup in Qatar kicks off in less than three weeks and doubts over whether Pogba will be fit and ready to take his place in Didier Deschamps’s squad are growing dramatically.

The midfielder has not played competitively this season after undergoing surgery in September on a knee injury sustained in pre-season.

Pogba’s injury is another blow for Deschamps ahead of the tournament. The France boss is already without Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante who has been ruled for four months after undergoing surgery on an injured hamstring.

Pogba now faces a race against time to prove his fitness. Deschamps is due to announce his France squad for the World Cup on November 9 as the Les Bleus’ opening game is scheduled for November 22 against Australia.
